Phnom Penh accommodation in the bustling capital of Cambodia offers a unique stay in a city of contrasts.
It’s where French colonial architecture rubs shoulders with glittering pagodas and sleek skyscrapers.
As the cultural and economic heart of Cambodia, Phnom Penh attracts a diverse range of travelers, from backpackers on a shoestring budget to luxury-seeking globetrotters.
The good news? There’s no shortage of excellent Phnom Penh accommodation options for every type of visitor.
In this blog post, we’ll take a deep dive into the variety of accommodation available in Phnom Penh.
And we’ll explore what it’s like to stay at three standout properties:
The Pavilion Hotel Phnom Penh, Pride Resort Cambodia, and The Vrest Hotel.
A Wide Range of Phnom Penh Accommodation
Phnom Penh’s accommodation scene has grown rapidly in the past decade, catering to an increasingly diverse international clientele.
Whether you’re looking for a hostel dorm bed, a boutique hotel, or a luxury resort, Phnom Penh has you covered.
Hostels and Budget Guesthouses
For backpackers and budget-conscious travelers, Phnom Penh offers a wealth of inexpensive options.
Hostels like Mad Monkey and Onederz are popular with the younger crowd, offering dormitory beds, social atmospheres, rooftop bars, and tours around the city.
Budget guesthouses are also widely available and often run by friendly locals, giving guests a more authentic Cambodian experience.
Mid-Range Hotels and Boutique Stays
Mid-range hotels and boutique accommodations are abundant throughout the city, especially in neighborhoods like BKK1 and Riverside.
These places often come with air-conditioned rooms, breakfast included, and stylish designs that blend modern comforts with traditional Khmer aesthetics.
Perfect for couples or digital nomads who want a bit more privacy and comfort without breaking the bank.
Luxury Hotels and Resorts
For those seeking opulence, Phnom Penh has a selection of high-end hotels that rival international standards.
Chains like Rosewood Phnom Penh, Raffles Hotel Le Royal, and Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra offer exquisite service, gourmet dining, spa treatments, and stunning views of the city and the Mekong River.
These hotels are ideal for travelers looking to indulge in a luxurious experience.
Serviced Apartments and Long-Stay Options
Digital nomads and expats often opt for serviced apartments or Airbnb-style stays, which come equipped with kitchenettes, workspaces, and often a pool or gym.
These are ideal for longer stays, offering a home-away-from-home vibe.
Popular areas for long-stay accommodation include Russian Market, BKK1, and Toul Tom Poung.
Staying at The Pavilion Hotel Phnom Penh
Nestled in a quiet neighborhood near the Royal Palace, The Pavilion Hotel Phnom Penh is a hidden oasis in the heart of the city.
This adults-only boutique hotel is renowned for its lush gardens, historic architecture, and intimate atmosphere.
Our warm welcome at check-in was complemented by a moist cloth and soothing herbal water, both presented to us on a banana leaf.
Cambodia Bucket List chose to stay in Room 7 – the Deluxe Pool View room at The Pavilion Hotel, Phnom Penh.
This is the same room where Her Majesty the Queen Mother of Cambodia, Sisowath Kossamak, once resided when the present-day hotel was a former royal residence.
As well as fully enjoying the expansive bedroom, we also spent time on the connecting patio veranda overlooking the swimming pool.
The Atmosphere
Walking into The Pavilion feels like stepping back in time.
The main building is a beautifully restored colonial-era villa, and the entire property is surrounded by towering trees and fragrant flowers.
The moment you pass through the gates, the noise of the city melts away, replaced by the sound of chirping birds and the gentle splash of fountains.
The Rooms
The rooms at The Pavilion are elegantly designed, blending Khmer motifs with French colonial influences.
Four-poster beds, rich wood furnishings, and private terraces or balconies create a cozy, romantic environment.
Some rooms even come with their own private plunge pools, ideal for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.
Amenities and Services
Guests can relax by one of the two swimming pools, indulge in spa treatments, or enjoy a complimentary foot massage upon arrival.
The on-site restaurant serves a delightful mix of Khmer and Western dishes, perfect for enjoying poolside or in the open-air dining area.
The staff are attentive and genuinely warm, often going above and beyond to ensure guests have a memorable stay.

Staying at Pride Resort Cambodia
Pride Resort Cambodia is more than just a place to stay; it’s a celebration of inclusivity and community.
Located a short tuk-tuk ride from the city center, this LGBTQ+ friendly resort has built a reputation as one of the most welcoming Phnom Penh accommodation options around.
It should be noted, however, that the inclusion of the word ‘Pride’ was originally intended to convey the owners’ pride in their resort.
Cambodia Bucket List stayed at Pride Resort Cambodia two years ago.
We recently took a trip back to see if it still lives up to its stellar reputation — and the great news is that it does.
However, we experienced a camera malfunction during our brief visit, so we only have a few photos from our previous stay.

The moment you arrive, you’re greeted with genuine smiles and a sense of belonging.
Pride Resort radiates a warm, laid-back vibe, with colorful decor, lush greenery, and a social atmosphere that makes it easy to connect with fellow travelers.

What sets Pride Resort apart is its lively social calendar.
From karaoke nights to pool parties and cultural workshops, there’s always something happening.
The on-site restaurant and bar serve up delicious cocktails and hearty meals, and the pool area is the heart of the resort—a perfect place to lounge, swim, and socialize.

While Pride Resort is geared toward the LGBTQ+ community, it welcomes all open-minded travelers with open arms.
It’s the perfect choice for those who value inclusivity, fun, and connection in their travel experience.
Cambodia Bucket List stayed for two nights, paying a total of US$59.
We didn’t realize it was an LGBTQ+ friendly resort when booking, and (besides not caring either way) we soon saw that everyone was welcome.
We certainly felt very welcomed, and as with The Pavilion Hotel, Pride Resort Cambodia is an oasis of calm, close to all the main tourist sites.

Staying at The Vrest Hotel
Located on Monivong Boulevard, directly opposite Calmette Hospital, The Vrest Hotel is farther out than The Pavilion Phnom Penh and Pride Resort Cambodia.
But what it lacks in location, it more than makes up for with its incredibly friendly staff and excellent value-for-money rooms.
There’s also a sky-bar pool on the 8th floor, overlooking the Phnom Penh skyline.

A small gym and a modern breakfast area round out the amenities.

Who is this Vrest Hotel Phnom Penh accommodation for?
The Vrest Hotel is a top pick for digital nomads, solo travelers, and couples who appreciate minimalist Art Deco style and peaceful convenience.
Its location is ideal for travelers arriving at the bus station, and it’s also easily accessible from the airport and train station.
While it’s not right in the heart of the city, it only takes 15 minutes by tuk-tuk to reach the Royal Palace.
Plus, after the heat and hustle of the city center, the Vrest Hotel is the perfect peaceful retreat.
It offers excellent value-for-money rooms.
Cambodia Bucket List stayed an extended stay at the Vrest Hotel Phnom Penh.
We paid approximately US$30 per night.
The room had a laptop-sized security safe and we felt very comfortable leaving our valuables in the room’s safe when we were traveling in and out of the hotel.
The 8th-floor sky-bar pool was a great place to watch the sunset and to meet other hotel guests.
