Best Hotels in Kampot: Where Comfort, Character, and Cambodian Charm Come Together
Best Hotels in Kampot offer more than just a place to sleep—they invite you into the heart of this charming riverside town.
When you think of Kampot, Cambodia, images of river sunsets, colonial-era architecture, and world-famous pepper farms might immediately come to mind.
Yet, there’s another side to this tranquil destination that’s worth exploring—the warm, welcoming, and wonderfully diverse accommodations available to travelers.
Whether you’re visiting for the laid-back vibes, kayaking the Green Cathedral, or heading to nearby pepper farms, you’ll find that Kampot has a surprising variety of hotels, guesthouses, hostels, and resorts to suit any budget and style.
From rustic bungalows snuggled in lush gardens to high-end boutique hotels with curated aesthetics, the options are almost as colorful as Kampot’s sunsets.
During our most recent visit, we had the chance to stay at three standout hotels that are among the best Kampot has to offer.
While we wouldn’t claim they’re the absolute best—everyone’s tastes vary after all—they certainly rank high on our list and each delivered an experience we’d be happy to repeat.
They offered comfort, thoughtful service, unique character, and just enough indulgence to elevate our stay from good to unforgettable.
So, if you’re planning your own Kampot getaway and looking for a place to lay your head that goes beyond the ordinary, keep reading.
Here’s a breakdown of our stays at Rikitikitavi Hotel, Pippali Boutique Hotel, and Hotel Old Cinema—each one memorable in its own right.
Kampot’s Accommodation Scene: Something for Every Traveler
Before diving into our hotel reviews, let’s take a moment to appreciate just how varied the lodging landscape in this riverside town really is.
Over the past few years, Kampot has blossomed from a sleepy backpacker haven into a destination offering more refined experiences—while still holding on to its charm.
Budget-conscious travelers can still find plenty of affordable riverside hostels or family-run guesthouses.
On the other hand, those seeking boutique comfort, locally-inspired interiors, and a touch of luxury have a growing number of options to choose from.
Importantly, Kampot doesn’t cater to mass tourism the way some other Southeast Asian cities do.
Even the more polished hotels here maintain a local soul—often housed in lovingly restored colonial buildings, art deco structures, or riverside wooden villas that preserve the town’s unique character.
That’s one of the reasons we fell in love with each of the three hotels we stayed at.
Now, let’s get into the details.
1. Best Hotels in Kampot: Rikitikitavi Hotel, Restaurant & Bar
📍 Riverside Road (Corner of Street 735 and Street 728)
🌐 rikitikitavi-kampot.com
We began our Kampot journey at Rikitikitavi, a charming riverside hotel with a name as fun as its ambiance.

A Warm Welcome & Rich History
From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into a well-loved home—one that could leave even Rudyard Kipling’s valiant young Indian grey mongoose in a meditative state.
Housed in a former rice barn, Rikitikitavi exudes rustic charm, blended effortlessly with creature comforts.
The check-in process was smooth, and the staff greeted us with a welcome drink and genuine smiles—something you come to appreciate deeply in Cambodia’s tropical heat.
What really sets Rikitikitavi apart is its combination of cozy accommodation and a vibrant on-site restaurant and bar.
It’s more than just a hotel; it’s a social hub for travelers and locals alike.
The shaded riverside deck offers spectacular views—particularly at sunset.
The Rooms
Each of the hotel’s nine rooms (we took a look) is tastefully designed with wooden furnishings, crisp linens, and thoughtful touches like locally-sourced bath products and beautiful artwork.
Our room was immaculately clean, with a comfortable bed, strong Wi-Fi, and cooling air conditioning.
The aesthetics of our room were stunning, with soft lighting emanating from carved, Buddhist-style motifs.
The private patio made for a peaceful morning coffee spot.
Dining & Drinks
We can’t mention Rikitikitavi without highlighting the food and cocktails.
The menu ranges from Khmer classics to Western comfort food, all of it delicious and reasonably priced.
The cocktails are creative and well-crafted—don’t miss out on their Happy Hour between 5-7PM!
And remember to drink responsibly — those beautifully crafted cocktails were much stronger than we anticipated.

Rikitikitavi shines with its authentic personality, excellent service, and central location.
It’s ideal for travelers who want to stay close to the action while enjoying a peaceful retreat with a view.
It’s not over-the-top luxury, but it doesn’t need to be.
It offers exactly what it promises—and then some.

2. Best Hotels in Kampot: Pippali Boutique Hotel
📍 Street 735, Kampot

Next on our journey was Pippali Boutique Hotel, a tranquil oasis that struck the perfect balance between privacy and style.

Modern Zen Meets Cambodian Warmth
Tucked slightly away from the bustling riverside yet still walkable to Kampot’s main attractions, Pippali impressed us with its sleek, modern design set amid tropical gardens.
The entire space felt curated—intentional, quiet, and elegant.
On arrival, the check-in staff offered us a refreshing welcome drink and walked us through the beautifully landscaped grounds.
Immediately, we noticed the vibe: serene, calming, and more “grown-up getaway” than backpacker retreat.
The Rooms
Our room at Pippali was spacious, sun-filled, and minimalist in the best way.
Clean lines, soft lighting, and natural materials made it feel like a spa retreat.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room included a rain shower, a well-sized work desk, and a terrace with views of the pool and gardens.
We particularly appreciated the small details—the way the staff went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying our stay, the variety of breakfast options, and the high-speed Wi-Fi (a blessing if you’re a digital nomad or just like to plan your adventures on the fly).
The Pool Area
This is where Pippali really shone.
The saltwater pool, flanked by lush foliage and cozy loungers, felt like a private sanctuary.
It was quiet throughout the day, making it ideal for a mid-afternoon swim or a relaxed read by the water.
The salt water exfoliated our skin, leaving it feeling like we’d just had a spa treatment.
Dining Experience
Pippali has a full restaurant, and they serve a satisfying breakfast with a selection of Western and Asian dishes.
Cambodia Bucket List stayed for six nights and we tried all six breakfast menu items:
- Khmer Breakfast
- Braised Beef
- English Breakfast
- American Breakfast
- Vegetarian Breakfast
- Healthy Breakfast
Photos of what we ate, along with highlights from all three hotel stays, can be viewed on our Instagram and Facebook pages:

They also had smoothies and juices that were especially refreshing.

Pippali Boutique Hotel is perfect for couples, solo travelers, or anyone in search of a serene hideaway.
It offers a slice of calm without disconnecting you from everything Kampot has to offer.
Among the best hotels in Kampot for those prioritizing peace, style, and modern convenience, Pippali stands out.

3. Best Hotels in Kampot: Hotel Old Cinema
📍 27 Street No 700, Kampot
🌐 Hotel Old Cinema Facebook
Our final stay brought us to the heart of Kampot’s cultural history: Hotel Old Cinema, a boutique hotel that beautifully merges nostalgia with contemporary chic.

A Step Back in Time—With Style
Set inside a restored 1930s movie theatre, Hotel Old Cinema doesn’t just offer accommodation; it offers an experience.
Every corner of the hotel pays homage to its cinematic past.
From vintage posters and curated artwork to subtle design choices that reflect Art Deco elegance, the hotel captures a bygone era with flair.
Cambodia Bucket List had the good fortune to meet the two lovely owners, along with the equally lovely hotel manager.
They showed us photos of the property before the renovation—and wow, they’ve created something magical from virtually nothing.
Starting with the foundations, they rebuilt the entire hotel from scratch. Now, they’re nearly finished adding a brand-new second floor of rooms.
The location couldn’t be better.
Situated right in the town center, you’re only minutes from the river, restaurants, markets, and some of the town’s best coffee shops.
That said, once you enter the hotel, the noise and bustle melt away.
The Rooms
Each room at Hotel Old Cinema is unique, echoing the building’s historical charm while offering modern luxuries.
We stayed in a room that included a private balcony, a plush bed, and a stylish bathroom featuring a rain shower and terrazzo finishes.
The attention to detail was evident everywhere—from the personalized welcome note on the bed and custom lighting to the elegant glass jugs of water and hand-painted bathroom door design.
It’s clear that this is a hotel run with love and a deep appreciation for design.
Pool & Lounge
The hotel’s centerpiece is its leafy courtyard pool, which sits beneath hanging lights and offers a cozy escape from the midday sun.
Adjacent to the pool is a sleek lounge and bar area—an ideal spot for pre-dinner cocktails or a post-adventure cool-down.
Dining Options
Hotel Old Cinema’s on-site restaurant serves up a delicious menu with seasonal ingredients and a creative twist.
The breakfast options, in particular, were some of the best we had during our trip—don’t miss the homemade jam or freshly-made lime juice concoction.
Best Hotels in Kampot | Hotel Old Cinema | Final Thoughts
Hotel Old Cinema was arguably the most unique stay of the three, thanks to its atmosphere and historic setting.
It’s ideal for design lovers, history buffs, or anyone looking for a hotel with Art Deco soul.
If you want your accommodation to tell a story while delivering high-end service, this place checks every box.
